Though the legal travails that have arisen for former New York Governor Eliot Spitzer are still unfolding, the shamed former pol already has plans for a return to politics.
In fact, he’s already made it known that he plans to run for a New York congressional seat in 2014.
According to The Huffington Post, Spitzer is eyeing the 22nd district seat currently held by Rep. Carolyn McCarthy (D-NY). The district stretches from New York City all the way to the Berkshires, and includes about a third of New York’s population.

Spitzer announced his retirement in February after revelations that he had been engaged in an inappropriate sexual relationship with a subordinate in the employ of his law firm. Spitzer admitted that he had traded favors with the woman and that he’d made some “missteps.”
In May, Spitzer was arrested and charged with four counts of misdemeanor prostitution, but he pleaded guilty to two of those counts and avoided jail time.
Spitzer had been running for Senate, but dropped out of the race after it became apparent that he wasn’t going to win.
Spitzer has also been a long-shot contender in other races — including Gov. Andrew Cuomo’s race against the Republican Bob Dole in 2006. He even considered running for president in 2004, before dropping out in a last-minute decision.
And though New York political observers believe the notion that Spitzer will be able to get past his sordid past is absurd, at least one noted GOP strategist does think he can do it.
