Conventionally, aspherical lenses are used in optical systems. Aspherical lenses have a variety of advantages, such as enabling an increase in light-gathering efficiency, maintaining a compact size and keeping high surface accuracy, and can be applied to optical systems in various fields. However, in the case of simply applying a conventional aspherical lens as it is to optical systems, the lens surface accuracy of the aspherical lens is easily degraded, with the result that a sufficient effect of improving the light-gathering efficiency cannot be obtained.
Accordingly, the applicant of the present invention has proposed an optical element having a plurality of concentric aspherical surfaces as disclosed in Japanese Patent Application No. 10-311531. This optical element includes aspherical surfaces each formed from an arbitrary polynomial of at least second-order.
On the other hand, in recent years, even in the case of an optical system using a lens having a large number of aspherical surfaces, the high-degree of freedom of design for an aspherical surface has become more important than ever before. However, an aspherical surface with a high-degree of freedom of design may not be able to have a sufficient effect of improving the light-gathering efficiency even if the surface accuracy thereof is maintained.
A variety of methods have been proposed as methods of optimizing an aspherical surface having a high degree of freedom of design. Among the methods, a method for optimizing the aspherical surface has been proposed, which includes: the step of generating a plurality of surface figures by using a be359ba680
